With the aim "to provide industry relevant, competitive, professional management and information technology education and add value", ITM trust was formed in the year 1991. Prof. P.V. Ramana, who had a distinguished career as Chief Executive Officer for few of the Indian firms, formed the ITM Trust with the support of industrial experts. Observing that developed countries are ahead in designing and delivering of higher end management education and to improve academic standards of Indian education, ITM trust entered into an academic association with Southern New Hampshire University, a leading Business School of Manchester, USA. Under this association, most modern and industry relevant programmes are offered jointly by ITM and SNHU.

The programmes offered by ITM, started receiving wider recognition and over the period of next decade, ITM has grown as a major force in education delivery with fully integrated residential campuses at Navi Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Warangal, etc. At these places ITM offers a AICTE accredited PGDBA programme.

Changing times call for change in approach ITM, after establishing itself as pioneer and leader in management and information technology education, with major presence in South India, decided to consolidate its position by a dedicated research centre for working on innovative programmes and Hyderabad has been the city of choice.

ITM Hyderabad centre was established in late 1998, to have a sharper focus towards design and delivery of specific industry oriented programmes. As a centre it is expected to do Research and Development in education area and act as a platform for launching innovative programmes with a scope of higher employment potential, compared to the conventional programmes.
